愛用していたサンダルが壊れた。ここ3年ほど愛用していた「三代目モデル」であった。だいたい一度買うと三年ほど使っているように思う。底もボロボロになり、海に入ったり、一昨年のバリ島旅行もこのサンダルで行った。季節的に問題なければ海外であろうが国内であろうがサンダルである。

ここで私のサンダルに対する熱い思いを補足しておこう。
私は年中サンダルである。
サンダルと言ってもいわゆる「スポーツサンダル」を愛用している。ビーチサンダルや踵をホールドしないようなリゾートサンダルは履かない。
夏はもちろん冬場でも近所ならサンダルで移動する。この「近所」の定義が曖昧だが自宅から半径10km圏内としている。自宅のある用賀から半径10kmというと渋谷まで含まれる。
なので私と渋谷で会ったときに「サンダルで登場した」のを目撃した友人、知人多数である。
いささかおかしな奴かも知れないが、これが慣れると無敵である。スニーカーや、ましてや運動靴の比ではない。踵を踏んで履けばサンダルだし、踵をホールでして履けばスニーカーになる。確かに冬場は寒いが海にも入れるし、長距離歩いても足が蒸れることもない。価格も三千円ほどと手頃で費用対効果抜群である。
よほどフォーマルな状況じゃない限り、私はこのサンダルで出歩いている。

それでそろそろヤバイと思っていたら案の定足の甲をホールドする部分が切れてしまった。時期的にまだサンダルが店頭に並び始めてはいるが品揃えとしてまだ弱い。問題なのは欲しいときに理想のサンダルを探すのが意外と大変であるということ。
渋谷の靴店を探し回るもデザインがイマイチだったり、サイズが無かったりとやはり私のサンダル探しは難航した。この「サンダル選び」というのは高ければ良いとか安いからダメと言うことではなく、「あるかないか」だけの問題である。どこでも値段は3～4,000円程度である。
それで以前から気になっていた池尻大橋の怪しい靴店へ。この店はマイナーなチェーン店であるがバカみたいに歩く私のような人間にはちょっとだけ魅力的な品揃えの店である。それで見つけたのが；
オシャレ要素ゼロである。でも、仕方ない。デザインも大事だが、それ以上に機能性と耐久性を優先した結果このチョイスとなった。一応「DUNLOP」のOEMなので靴底もしっかりしている。こういう類のものはタイヤメーカーのOEMに外れ無し。値段も3,000円ほどで理想通り。
これを買えたときはほっとした。
これで今年の夏は安泰である。
