さて、久しぶりにニューヨークネタである。
今回の旅は羽田発の飛行機アメリカンエアライン。いつもなら成田まで行って時間もコストもかかるのだが羽田だと近いし便利だ。
今回の旅のメリットだった・・・、はずなんだが・・・。
実際のところ朝6:40の飛行機で、二時間前にはチェックインなので4:30までには空港にいなくてはならない。だが、そんな時間に公共交通機関が動いているわけもなく、タクシーだと7千円ほどかかる。結局終電に乗って羽田空港に行き、朝まで時間を潰す羽目に。。。
これが実にかったるい。写真を撮ったりしてもすぐ飽きる。搭乗まで7時間以上ある。「寝る」という選択もあるにはあるがそんなことしたら現地についてから時差ボケに悩まされる。なんせ時差は12時間、昼夜逆転しているのだから。
搭乗ロビーには人影はなく、免税店も見飽きるほど見たが0時を回る頃にはどこも閉まってしまう。
唯一の娯楽はロビーに置いてあるテレビなのだがこれが1時になると消えるのである。
完全に打つ手無し。
しばらくすると警備員が巡回してきて「何時のフライトですか？」と聞かれ、「6:40です。」と答えると「ああ、そうですか・・・。」と。なんか「メンドクセー」みたいな警備員の空気を感じつつ、恐らく私がここにいるおかげで巡回ルート増えるぞ、みたいな。いやいやこっちも好きでいるわけじゃないし。
結局二時間ほど仮眠した（と言っても起きたらまだ3時過ぎなんだが・・・）。
やっと搭乗時刻になり、飛行機に乗る頃には疲れ果てている。
しかも、これから12時間におよぶフライトかと思うと着く前からゲンナリしてしまった。
結局、自宅を出発してJFK空港に着くまで20時間ほどかかったのである。
