昨日に引き続き新宿ネタというか、たわいもない話。
実際のところニューヨーク写真がなかなか終わらない。写真のチョイスとリサイズなど手が回らないという物理的な問題。
それでちょっと現実逃避気味に蕎麦の名店『かめや』について書こうかと。
「かめや」はたびたび当ブログに登場している蕎麦屋だ。東京というところは蕎麦屋が多いのだが個人的にはこの「かめや」がダントツで好きだ。
新宿、神田、新橋の店には行ったことがある。まぁ、立ち食いではないけれど立ち食いっぽい感じの蕎麦屋だ。値段も相応に安い。ただし、いわゆる老舗の名店とは違うのでそういう蕎麦屋と比較しても無駄であることを付け加えておく。
その中でもやはり「新宿店」が好きだ。新宿店は24時間営業なのだが昼間の営業時間帯がお勧め。蕎麦を茹でる回転も早く、高確率で茹でたてにありつける。また、この時間帯にやみくもにかき揚げを揚げている兄ちゃんがいるのだが彼のかき揚げが抜群だ。
他店の天ぷらも概ね統一仕様なのだが彼の揚げる天ぷらは厚みが均一で「サックリ感とボリューム」が違う。新宿、新橋あたりで飲んだ最後のシメはかめやの蕎麦と決めている。
ここ数年、海外のガイドブックに載っているのかアジア系の観光客の姿もチラホラ。そうした客に対して店員さんもどこで覚えたか分からないかなり大雑把な英語でやりとりしている。やりとりと言うよりは値段を英語で言っているだけで客は黙って千円札を出すくらいのコミュニケーション。そして海の向こうから来た客たちは一様に「天玉そば」を頼む。この店が「天玉そば発祥の店」であるから、というよりはガイドブックにそう書いているのであろう。
私の場合は汁にかき揚げを浸すような食べ方よりも、盛りそばにかき揚げ乗せた「天ぷらせいろ」だ。これはどこの蕎麦屋へ行っても同じ。常にもりそばとかき揚げが定番。
また、不思議なことに私の周囲には「かめやの隠れファン」が多い。かめやのそばを愛するが、そのB級さゆえか誰も口外しないのか。
そしてこんなことを書いているとまた食べたくなってきた。
なんか新宿に行く用事を作ろっかな。
