年に何度か早朝の街を歩く。
目的は「写真」なのだがそれ以外にその場所を「定点観測」することで時勢を感じることにしている。
そして久しぶりに表参道を歩いた。
表参道という場所で6年ほど働いていた。あの当時日本で一番おしゃれな場所だった。
青山アパートがあり、今のような「高級ブランド」ではないアパレルブランドも点在していた。元々今ほど店の数も無かった。銀座よりも若く、原宿よりも落ち着いているのが「表参道」だった。
電車賃をケチって渋谷で電車を降り、246号線を徒歩で表参道まで向かう。
この道は何千回と歩いた通りだ。
新しいビルが建っていたり、コンビニができていたり、良くも悪くも「今風」だ。
一歩裏へ入るとそこは住宅街だ。これは変わっていない。ただ、メインストリートはなんというか汎用的というか没個性というか。
どこにでもある、どっかでみたようなブランドや看板が溢れている。
つまらない。
このエリアはこんなに凡庸だったかな？と自問自答してしまう。
恐らく今でも流行発信地であり、特に広告の世界では影響を持ったクリエーターたちがわんさか居るエリアだ。
なんだけどその割にどうもつまらない。
まぁ246号線沿いなので仕方ないと思えばそうとも思えた。
それでなぜ「早朝なのか」と言われれば、やはり早朝の街というのは単に雑音が少ないのだ。ここで言う「雑音」というのは車であり人である。この雑音の無い空気感というのはなんとも魅惑的なのよ。
どこでもこうかと問われればそんなことはないし、「魅惑的な時間」というのは早朝6時前後からの1時間くらいしか楽しめない。
また、季節は冬は寒い日ほど価値があり、湿度が低いため全てがクリアに見える。そして一番の目的「写真」にとってベストコンディションなのだ。
骨董通りと246号線の角にある「MaxMara」が表参道までの中間地点。
向かい側から見ると威圧的というか、悪の組織のアジトみたいなビルだかこの時間帯だと美しく見える。
早朝でもショーウィンドウがライトアップされている店が好きだ。
お店のウィンドディスプレイというものは深夜か早朝に見るものだと思っている。
大した理由なんて無い。ただ、一つ言えるのは雑音がない分ちゃんと見れる。
でも、なんかつまんない。
やはり汎用的というか、「平凡」というか。
昔の表参道界隈のウィンドウディスプレイというのはもっと斬新さやチャレンジングなものが多かったように思う。
ほどなくして表参道の交差点。
ここは相変わらずサマンサタバサが際だっている。ここのバッグの何が良いのかサッパリ理解できない。価格も他のブランドバッグに比して安めなのは理解しているが、一瞬だけのもので長く持つようなデザインのものはない。
男と女の価値観の違いなのか、私が古くさいだけなのか、カバンの類というのは長年使って「育てるもの」だと思う。
そして屋上の立て看板に空白が目立つ。その昔、年間一千万以上した掲示料だったが各企業が奪い合っていた。
不景気なのか、単なる費用対効果が良くないだけなのか分からない。こうしたマスに向けた純広告というのはこれだけマーケティング技術が発達した今日においては無駄なのかも知れない。
しかし、そうは思いつつも華やかさに欠ける。
246号線から表参道に入る。
みずほ銀行の前を明治通りに向かって歩くだけなんだが昔はこの通りを歩くことがステータスだった。
歩けば何かしら発見のある通りなのが表参道だったのだが・・・。
やはり時代の流れというか、ハナエモリビルは無くなっているのが印象的だった。
実際には立て替えらしく、ハナエモリはすでにオフィスを六本木に移動しているという。
ちなみに ハナエモリのビルは正式名称を「青山大林ビルディング」と言うのだが、いずれにせよまたランドマークが一つ消えたんだな、と。
他の先進国の街並みってこれほどまでに入れ替わりが激しいのか？少なくともヨーロッパ、とりわけパリでは内装こそ変われど外観は手つかずで、景観が極端に変わるような場所はなかったと記憶している。
そういう意味では頻繁にデカイ建物が建ったり、壊したりしているのは日本だけなんじゃないだろうか。
こうした合理主義的と称した非効率な行動がそれぞれの街の個性を壊している気がするが。
それにしても表参道ってなんかつまらない街になったな。
なんというかインスピレーションが沸かない街になってしまったな。
目を凝らして見渡せばそれ相応に参考になるビジュアルはあるにはあるのだが、昔のように「向こうからやってくるような迫力」は感じなかった。
表参道から明治通りに出て、一路渋谷へ向かう。
ジョギングウェアの店が新たに出来ているのが目に入る。
やはり流行なんでしょうね、ジョギング。
スポーツウェアというよりは「アパレル」な感じ。個人的にはあのケバケバしい感じのウェアを着て街中走るというのはどうも照れる。
明治通りを渋谷方面に歩き、渋谷に近づくと小さくて良い意味でガチャついた感じの店が並ぶ。
一体誰がどういう目的で経営しているのか、客は何を求めてこういう店に来るのか分からない。
でも、そこにあるということは何かしら理由があるんだろう。
40歳目前のオッサンにはそんな理由を知る術は無し。
そうこうしているうちに渋谷に到着。
小一時間ほどの散歩だったがこの一時が楽しくて好きだ。
目的もなく、なんとなくルートを漠然とイメージして歩く。
寒い間にもう一回くらいやろう。
