若かりし頃、仕事では秋葉原に月に数回行っていた。あの当時恐らく私の知り合いで私よりアキバに詳しい奴なんて滅多にいなかったように記憶している。
当時、昼飯食える場所が少なく、メシ食えるところを知っているだけで尊敬されたもんだ。また、千代田区の路上喫煙禁止条例施行後でも、タバコ吸える場所を知っていた。
当時、ITバブルの初期の頃で一人一台パソコンの時代だった。マッキントッシュの専門店が繁盛し、それ以上に「PCのパーツ屋」が乱立していた。秋葉原発祥の家電量販店がブイブイ言わせていた頃だ。
あれから10年ほど経過。アキバには年に何度か行っているがこうして改めて見るとあの当時の様相はどこにもない。今でも残っている店はあるが半分以上は変わってしまった。
この店はラオックスの「ザ・コンピュータ館（通称：ザコン）」と言ってアキバで一番のパソコンショップだった。
ただ、ラオックス自体が家族経営かつ放漫経営だったので業績悪化し、今では中国資本の会社になってしまった。
この頃のアキバ発祥の電気屋というのは不動産をかなり持っていたのも時代の現れだろう。ただ、そうした企業のほとんどが無くなっているか、どこかに買収されている。
あの当時こんな状況が来ると思っていなかったがこうしてみるとはかないものだ。
感傷に浸りながら歩いているとまた時代の流れを感じる光景を目にする。平日の午前中にもかかわらずメイドカフェの「メイドさんたち」がビラ配りをしている。メイドさんの出現は今に始まったことではないのだが、明らかに数年前と異なるのはメイドさんのレベルが「年々高くなっている」ということだ。すなわち可愛い子が増えている。今ではメイドの1/3が外国人のお店もあったりする。
昔のアキバには「女子」というのは電気屋の店員さんくらいしかいなかったのだがこうしてみると時代は変わっていることを感じる。
また、昨年から大ブレイクしているAKB48も5年ほど前にここからスタートしたんだよな。
このビルには「亜土電子工業」の「T・ZONE」というパソコンショップが入っていた。ここにも仕事でよく行った。
ただ、その当時から亜土電子工業という会社は経営的に脆弱で、CSKの傘下になってみたりして迷走していた。結局ビルごとドンキホーテが買って再利用しているが建物の構造自体はあの当時と一緒。
確かに8階でアイドル関連のイベントスペースになっていたがそれがAKBのホームグラウンドになるとはねぇ。
歩いているといささか腹が減ったので久しぶりにアキバで昼飯でも食おうかと思い昔何度か行った定食屋へ。
「かんだ食堂」というのだがここは何も変わっていない。この頑なさも珍しい。
この食堂はアキバで昔から働いている人たちの憩いの場だ。なんせ量が多く味も良い。さして愛想の良い店ではないが「生姜焼き定食」を頼めばイヤと言うほどの生姜焼きが食える。メニューも昔から変わっていない。
久しぶりにここで食おうかと思ったのだが、私はあの頃ほど食えなくなっている。さほど年齢を気にすることはないのだがさすがにあの量を思うとちょっと自信が無かった。
結局店の前をスルーして終了。
きっとここはこれからも変わらないだろうからまた来よう。
時間が早かったこともあってかさほど人は多くなかったが、たまにこうしてブラつくのも悪くない。めったに用事のあるような場所ではないが今度は誰かさそってメイドカフェにでも立ち寄りながら散策してみよう。
