横田基地へ行ってきた。
最寄り駅は青梅線の福生駅なので都内から行くには遠い。
でも電車で行けるアメリカである。
中に入るにはいろいろルールがあり、米軍関係者と一緒じゃないと中に入れない。ご近所在住のLennyが軍関係（彼は文民）なので彼の同伴者扱いとして入国（？）
入るためには免許証かパスポートが必要なのだがパスポートの方が確実に入れる。
着くとまずはビジターセンターで受け付けするのだが日曜日ということもあってたくさんのビジターでごった返していた。ここでの手続きがけっこう面倒なのと、英語と日本語が飛び交う。日本なんだがここでは当然公用語は英語。日本人なんだが日系人なんだかわかんない人多数。あと、フィリピン人女性も多くてやはり日本っぽくない。
手続き済ませて中に入ると雰囲気は完全に「アメリカ」。
さて、着いた我々はまず腹ごしらえということでChilly'sへ。
メキシカンというかアメリカンというか、アメリカではポピュラーなファミレス。
建築資材から食材まで、全部アメリカから持ってきているのでなんか基地内の雰囲気がちょっと不思議な空気。
ただ、中にある信号機やら道路は日本仕様。そのため車は左側通行である。
さっそくChily'sに入店した我々はメニューを見る。ご一緒した皆さんは海外生活経験が豊富でメニューをサクサク読んでいるが、私は完全なる日本人ゆえに何がなんだかさっぱり分からない。
写真が載っているのだが、それがどの料理のことかも分からない。
加えてウェイトレスの女の子の英語の早さに腰が引ける。
うーん、本場の生きた英語というものに圧倒される。
当然のことながら周りの客はは外人だらけである。
メニューが読めなくともビールは飲みたいのでまずはビール。
ビールを飲んだところでメニューは読めず、結局オーダーはご一緒人たちにお任せすることに。
途中、皆さんウェイトレスと小粋なイングリッシュコンバセーションしているが、私は全くその会話について行けず。

ちなみにオーダー中も誰が何を頼んでいるのか理解できず。。。
なんとなーく一人一品くらいずつ頼んでいるんだよなぁ、くらいの感じは掴めたがそれ以上は無理。
というかそもそも食ったこと無いものばかりだ。渋谷にあるTGIフライデーズと同じような感じなんだろうがどうも勝手が違う。そしてしばらくしてテーブルの上に並べられた料理の数々。
予想はしていたが量がハンパ無い。手の大きさと比較してもいささかおかしなサイズである。これ以外にポークリブステーキが；
手のひらより大きい・・・。それで味なんだがTGIフライデーズよりは旨いと思う。なんか理不尽な油っぽさもなく、意外なほどに食べやすい味付け。
当然この量なので食べきれず（実際にはかなりの量を食べたのだが）、余りはお持ち帰り用のプラスチックパックを貰ってパッキング。
他の客を見渡しても、けっこう持って帰っている客はいるのでやはりアメリカ人にとっても多いんだろうな。
やはり日本人にとっては味付け濃いし、海外で日本食が流行るのも理解できる。
ただ、やっぱこれらの料理はビールガブ飲みするときにバッチリであることは疑う余地無し。この後の予定があったのでビールは一杯でやめた。
散々食べたあとははち切れんばかりのお腹を抱えつつ、ショッピング。基地内にあるスーパーマーケットへ。
それでスーパーの外観は海外のスーパーらしく簡素な外観である。昨年行ったバリ島でもその他の国々でもそうなんだが、外観を派手にしているスーパーというのは日本だけ、もしくは一部のアジア諸国だけなんじゃないだろうか。
中にはアメリカで有名なコーヒーショップやらファストフードの店が入っている。
要は基地内にいれば外に出る必要はないくらいに充実した設備が揃っているということだ。
Lennyの従兄弟が横田に一年半駐留していたらしいがそのときは基地の外に一度も出なかったというし。
それでこのスーパーには日常生活に必要なものは全て揃っている。支払いは当然「ドル」である。
店内は当然「アメリカのスーパーマーケット」である。カラフルなお菓子なんかも普通に売っており、むしろ「日本製」のものは無い。
それでせっかく「電車に乗ってまで来たアメリカ」なのでなんか買い物したくなる。でも、なかなかめぼしいモノが無い。
それで見つけたのが「お酒」コーナー。
ハードリカー系のお酒は意外と充実している、というか日本ではあまり見かけない酒もある。写真のジェントルマンジャックは日本で売られているものとボトルが違うし、値段も千円以上安い。
また、写真では分かりづらいが日本で買うと「750ml」が標準だが、ここでは「1L」がほとんど。
スミノフにフレーバー付きがあるのを初めて見た。
ちなみに写真では分からないがこれらは全て「1Lボトル」なのでデカイ。
この中からアップル風味をお土産にチョイス。お値段11.5ドル。
これ以外に「MilitarySpecial」という明らかに怪しいジンを見つけ（お値段6.5ドル）たのでそれもチョイス。
かなり重たいお土産となってしまった。
こうして雑貨系のフロアを後にし、次は生鮮食料品フロアへ移動することに。
