池袋でスナップ写真を撮ってみた。
それでこの「池袋」という街がどうも馴染めないというかアウェイ感に溢れている。恐らく人生で一番最初に池袋に訪れたときの印象が悪いのだと自覚している。
今から10年以上前だが仕事で池袋に行ったときに、着いて早々駅前のロータリーでヤクザが堅気に一方的に絡むという光景を目にしたからだ（当然お巡りさん飛んできけど）。
そのあと東京出張の際にも何度か池袋に宿泊する機会があったが、夜の池袋というのは新宿とも違う隠微さというか、猥雑さがあった。また、駅を中心に西側の方がさらに怪しげな雰囲気を漂わせている。
行き交う人の雰囲気が違うというか。
いや正確には普通の人たちの中に「曰く付きの人」が混ざっている感じ。どこの街でもあることだがその比率が高いのが池袋という街だ。
例えば幼い子どもを連れ歩く母親。一般的には彼女は「普通のママ」だ。ただ違うのは彼女の胸元から一瞬見えた「弥勒菩薩」だ。他の街ではあまり見かけない光景に思う。
それはそれで悪くはないし、むしろそういうところが池袋っぽさなんだがこの街を「写真」に収めるとなるとどういうスタンスが正しいのか迷う。
スナップ写真にしては大振りな一眼デジカメを持ち歩くとやはり周囲の視線を感じる。
「なんだこいつは？」
「こいつもか」
携帯電話が普及し、国民総カメラマンのご時世、そしてデジカメの普及により私のような類の人種が増えていることもあり、人々の対応は冷ややかに感じる。
これがバリ島などの途上地域だと事情は違うがそんなことを言ってもここは池袋だし、世界に数ある大都会の一つであることに変わりはない。
なのでたかがスナップ写真と言えどもそれなりに気を遣う。
今回は「一眼デジカメ」をぶら下げ、「写真撮りますよ！」ということを周囲にアピールしながら歩いてみたのだが。。。
にわかアーティスト気取りの若者と一緒にして欲しくはないと思いながらも所詮やっていることは彼らと同じなので周囲から受ける視線もそこへ向けられるものとさほど変わらない。
またこうした歓楽街では絡まれることも想定される。実際には絡まれた経験などないのだが、元々人と接することを生業としていた経験が災いしてか、「人を見分ける力」というのが発達している。その経験を踏まえると池袋、特に西口界隈というのは「理屈抜きでやばそうな人たち」との遭遇確率が高く、こちらも油断できないのである。恐らく普通の（※普通という定義が難しい）人よりも「やばいシチュエーション」というのは経験しているように思うがその経験が思い切りの良さを阻害しているのかも知れない。
好ましくないトラブルというのは意外なところから生まれるものだ。
ロマンス通りなんかも撮りたかったがほどよいタイミングで時間切れ。
写真を撮る行為というのはさほど自分が思っているほど周囲は気にしていないとは思いながらも自分の思い込みからくるある種の偏見に似たような感情にはなかなか勝てないものだ。
なんというか、どこへ行ってもさほど臆することはない方だとは思うがどうも苦手意識のある街が池袋。
