先週、Mikihisa氏に連れられて新宿にある某バーへ。
バーと言われる店に行くのはかなり久しぶり。最近では都心のバーよりも、こうした都心のバーで修行したバーテンダーさんたちが地価や（不毛な）競争を避け、じっくり腰を据える覚悟で出店している郊外の店に行くことが多い。まぁ、そこを踏まえてもバーという場所に久しぶりに足を運んだ。
Mikihisa氏曰くこのバーのウリは「カスク＝原酒」であり、自前でサントリーの山崎と白州の「樽」を持っているという相当レア＆玄人好みなお店である。自称「ウイスキー好き」としてはそんな店があるなら是非と思い早い時間にそのバーに行った。
蛇足だが、「良い酒」を呑むときは「しらふ」で行くのが鉄則である。いや、実際のところ酒を楽しむ場所であり、それ意外にも下心を持って接している女子と「お近づきになりたいときのもう一軒」という役割もあるにはあるが、どんなに酒の品揃えが良かろうが、雰囲気良かろうが所詮カシスオレンジを頼まれるというオチなのでそこは気をつけた方が良い。また、仮に連れて行っても決して「余計な酒のうんちく」を語ってはいけない。そんなもの語ったところで今時の女子は感心してくれない。酒について真剣に語っても相手には鉄道オタクやアニメオタクと同じかそれよりちょっとマシかな？程度にしか思われないのである。
それでこの店の原酒のメニューを拝見すると実に8酒類ほどあり、けっこう「すごい！」と素直に感動する。ただ、いかんせん原酒というのは加水前の状態なのでどれもだいたいアルコール度数が60%ほどあって何種類も飲めるものではない。だいたい最初の一杯で酔いが回るので原酒を「理性的に楽しめる限界」は二杯までと考えた方がよい。
また、こうした品揃えの店なので当然メニューを熟読してしまった。これがなかなか玄人好みな品揃え。それで一番感動したのがこれ；
これは「ジャックダエエル モノグラム」という。だいたい国内の酒店で流通しているのはブラックかジェントルマンなのだがこれは初めて見つけた。っていうか15年近く前に当時の上司の家で飲ませて貰いそれ以来ウイスキーが好きになったという想い出のウイスキーである。
いろんな酒屋を探しても売っておらず、商品名すら覚えていなかったので探す術を持っていなかった。次第に探すことすら忘れていた。
それがこの店にはあったのだ。
これを見せてもらったときは衝撃的だった。「味」に関してはジャックダニエル独特の薬のような風味というか、アメリカのウイスキーなのでむろん「日本製」ほど深みはない。ただ、15年前に一度呑んだだけなので味なんて思い出せなかった。しかし、「あの頃」をいろいろ思い出した。
バーテンダー曰く、これはアジア地域限定のボトルなのだという。要は免税店で買えるらしいのだが今まで知らなかった。きっと大人になった今では買って買えない値段でも無いんだろうけど、「買う」というのも発想が安易だし、ストーリーがなくてつまらない。やはりこれは偶然出会って、神様が何かを思い出させようとしているんだろう、と思って呑みたい。
転機のタイミングに突然現れる、そのときに「ワンショットだけ」頂く。味じゃないね、これは。
一つくらい想い出の酒がある生き方は悪くない。
