最近、iPadが「話題」である。iPhoneも「4」になっているがやはり時代は「iPad」である。
欲しいかと言われれば欲しいが、優先順位は低い。
店頭で実機触ってきたけど、確かに凄い端末だ。思った以上に動作も速く、快適な操作感を実現している。なかなか面白い。
ただ、別にそんな「最先端」を追いかける必要は無いんじゃないかい？と思っている。
前職時代は常に携帯電話関連では最先端の情報を求められ、日々情報を追いかけていたわけで恐らく普通の人たちよりも早い段階でiPhoneに触れていたしその裏側も知っている。客にさんざん説明したりもしたけど自分では未だに持っていない。
理由は簡単で慌てて飛びつく必然性は何も無い。仕事上必要ならまだしも、所詮人間が作ったもので、そこには作った人間の思惑が介在しているわけでまんまとそれに乗っかる必要性も無い。批判ではなく「必要性と優先順位」の問題。必要ならそのとき買えば良いだけの話。「情報だけ」は溢れているんだから好きなタイミングで良い。
そもそも過去を振り返っても常にこうした「おもちゃ」はいつの時代にもあったわけだし、時間と共に違う「何か」に移り変わる。ハードウェアとしての性能が進化しているだけであって革命的かと言われればさほどでもない。
一方、最近感じるのだがこれだけ情報が溢れている状況で「情報鮮度」ってどこまで重要なのかと。「鮮度」だけならやはり人を媒介とした情報の方が明らかに鮮度は良く、メディアに載っている情報なんてさして価値はない。最近のテレビなんてネットのニュースを転載してたり、ネタ元にしているだけだろう。
それでここのところ見直しているのがブックオフの「105円コーナー」。
これがけっこう良い。
新刊なら買わないような本だが「発売当時」話題になっていた本とか、新刊や中古でも買うのを躊躇していたような本なども並んでいる。
こんなのを一度に5～10冊適当に買っている。もう選び方は「雑」。気になったタイトルの本を中身パラパラっとめくって興味があれば買う。
だって一冊105円だし。
それで実際読んでみると情報としてさほど古さを感じない。むしろ5年ほど前の本だと「現在」と比較もできる。同じ著者の本を複数冊まとめることで「そいつ」の思考や軸がぶれていないかなども読み取れる。
それで少しでも読んでみて「面白くない」と思ったら捨てれば良い。
だって一冊105円だし。
「お金払って買ったからもったいない」という意識で嫌々読んでも意味はない。苦痛なだけ。だったら読まない方が良い。時間もったいないしょ。
だって一冊105円だし。
1,500円の失敗は苦痛だが、105円なら許容範囲だ。10冊買った中の一冊でも当たりがあれば楽勝で元は取れる。興味のある人や分野の本をザックリ乱読して大局的に掴むなら十分だ。読みながら印付けたりメモを書き込むのも自由。
それで読み終わった、もしくは途中で放棄した本は捨てずにまたブックオフに持って行く。
気の利いている人ならヤフオクあたりで売るのだろうがそれも面倒なのでブックオフに持って行く。
お金になるか？
いや、金になんてならなくても良いのだよ。
どうせ一冊105円で買った本だから。
ブックオフで買った本をブックオフに持っていってまたそれを売ってくれればいいのだ。
