所用で溝の口へ。昼近く、空腹を感じ何を食おうか悩む。溝の口といえばドンキホーテへの途中にある洋食屋と決めているがダイエット中なのでそば屋を探す。なかなか無い。理想は「立ち食いそば」である。
ほどなくして溝の口の駅から離れたところに怪しげな立ち食いそば屋（写真↑）を見つける。
私：（入ってみるか・・・）
入り口のメニューを見ると「ざるそば」はあるが「もりそば」が無い。嫌な予感。
一瞬ためらうも、他にあてもないので入ってみる。店員さんに「かけそば下さい（←怖くて他のもの頼めない。ちなみに290円也）」というと「自販機で券買って（←愛想レベルは低い）」との返事。
言われたとおり、わかりづらい場所にある自販機で券を買い店員さんに渡す。
オーダーを済ませると余裕が生まれる。落ち着いて店内を見回す。
外観よりも「不自然な構造で広い」ことが分かった。カウンターを見ると、一応野菜天やかき揚げなどの立ち食いそばのマストアイテムが並んでいる。作りは小ぶりだが見た感じ悪くはない。外観は怪しいが店内はきちんと清掃され、整然としている。
私：（そばを見てから頼んでもいいよな）
ほどなくしてかけそば登場。
私：（ん？目の錯覚か？つゆが黒い・・・・）
そばのつゆが真っ黒なのである。醤油にしか見えない。
私：（マジ？これって醤油じゃないの？？？しかもアツアツだし・・・）
私：（いや、実はこう見えてなんか工夫されているんじゃないか？まずは一口つゆをすする・・・）
ズズズ・・・、
私：（・・・・、やっぱり醤油だ・・・）
よくよく味わうと「出汁っぽさ」はあるがやっぱり醤油だ。明らかにしょっぱい。急激に水が欲しくなる。
私：（きっとそばは良い感じなのかも？）
さっそく一口。
ズルズル・・・、
コシがあると言えばあるのだが、この食感は紛れもなく「冷凍麺」である。
完全に外れだ。「もりそばの無いそば屋は危険」という自分のルールを思い出した。経験則は大事だ。駅構内にあるようなそば屋でも、冷凍麺やゆで麺の店には「もりそば」が無いことが多い。
私：（う～ん、これで商売しているのか？もしくは溝の口はこういうのがウケる土地柄なのか？）
ただ、客は私一人。
私：（いやー、これじゃ客は入らないか・・・）
するとおばさんが入ってきて「天ぷらそば」を頼んでいる。しかもなんか買い物帰りっぽい。地元民か？他の客が入ってくると自分の味覚に自信が持てなくなり不安になる。
私：（もう一口つゆ飲んでみるか・・・）
ズズズ・・、
私：（コクがあると思えばそう思えなくもないが、やはりこれは醤油だと思うが・・・・）
いささか不安と迷い覚えつつ食べ終え、店を出ようとしたら若い男が入れ違いに入ってきた。
もしかするとたまたま店員のミスだったのか（あの味は「かえし」を沸かしただけな気がするんだが・・・）、もしくはそもそもこういうそば屋なのか・・・。
溝の口という街の奥は深い。
